Championship Chess Gets Ready for State
Get Ready for the K-8 State Team Championships
March 25 at Peachtree Ridge High School in Suwanee
First, congratulations to all the participants at the State Team Qualifier who helped their schools qualify for the 2017 State Championships. Special kudos go out to all our Championship Chess Schools. Here’s the results for our Qualifying Teams:
K-1 Section: Trinity and Daves Creek were part of a 3-way tie for first. Woodward came in 6th and Vanderlyn also qualified. In this section, of the 9 teams qualifying, 4 of them were Championship Chess schools.
K-3 Section: Daves Creek came in 3rd and Woodward also qualified.
K-5 Section: Trinity came in 2nd and Daves Creek, last year’s State Champions in this section, came in 5th.
Middle School: Autrey Mill, last year’s State Champs, came in 2nd and LEAD and Chamblee also qualified.
Qualifying for State is just the beginning. Now, the real work begins as players improve and illustrate their skills at clubs and at tournaments. Championship Chess coaches will evaluate players and rank them in order to determine which board they will play. Remember, this is the only tournament of the year where the number of players is restricted: 4 players, plus 2 alternates for K-1; 5 players, plus 2 alternates for K-3, K-5 and 6-8.
