Dr. Brian McCarthy: Chess Coach Extraordinaire
Life Master Brian McCarthy combines Systematic Chess Study with Affordable Chess Lessons. He became Senior Chess Master, the highest national title (2400 rating), in 1992 after 10 years as a Master and a few years as a Life Master. He began teaching in the early 1980's and has many successful students.
In competitive play, Brian has beaten several 2600 Grandmasters: Christiansen, Rohde, Kudrin, Fedorowicz, Zaichik, Wolff, Hracek and Sagalchik. And, he played FIDE World Champion Anatoly Karpov, the successor to Bobby Fischer.
Brian conducts individual lessons as well as classes and clubs in public, private schools, gifted and talented institutes. He is currently the top-rated vendor at the Internet Chess Club (www.chessclub.com) with over 3000 online lessons since 1997.
As a coach with Minnesota’s Metcalf Junior High, his team won 3 national titles: 2013 U1000, U750 and 2014 U750. And, Brian’s students have won 5 individual national titles: US Amateur, Denker Championship of State High School Champions, Champion of State Champions, National Class D Champion and US Junior under age 7.
