Rodney Lewis: Coach and Atlanta Affiliate

Coach Rodney Lewis
An Atlanta Affiliate

Rodney grew up in Harlem N.Y. When Rodney was about 9, his older brother Douglas, 10, taught him how to play chess. Douglas loved the game so much that he traveled around the neighborhood teaching dozens of kids and adults how to play just so he could have some competition.

Rodney has been working with Championship Chess for over 9 years. First, as a coach; and, now as a coach and affiliate. He has 10 area programs and runs dual meets between his schools. He has a well-established free chess club that meets on the 1st and 3rd Monday of each month at the East Atlanta Library. He enjoys improving his game and he works with his students at many area tournaments.

Rodney has other passions as well: He started playing tennis in 1971 and has been playing, competing and teaching ever since. Each summer, he runs some unique camps in the Atlanta area: Chess and Tennis for all ages and abilities.

Rodney has a BBA in Marketing from Bernard M. Baruch College and a Masters in Marketing Management from Long Island University in Brooklyn, NY. He has been married to his “gorgeous and wonderful” wife Lenore for 21 years and has raised four young men: two sons and two nephews, all but one has graduated college.
