We have just returned from “talking chess” at the 2018 Impact After School Conference in Iowa and it was great to see so many active after school chess groups in the Des Moines area! We addressed a group of teachers and administrators on facilitating chess in their schools’ programs.

 

According to the feedback given to the conference organizers, our presentation was well-received! The participants gave us excellent marks on our knowledge of the topic and delivery and stated that the accompanying handouts were useful, relevant and covered the subject. Some of their comments:

·       I really enjoyed your presentation. It helped me realize how important it is to teach kids chess.

·       I love the small challenge ideas.

·       Very interesting how much this can help with math.

·       Love the strategy and purpose to learning!!!

 

Judging by their closing comments, and by the great interest shown by visitors to our booth, it looks like chess will be coming to some new schools in Iowa! We plan to visit some of these schools this summer. On the way from Georgia to Iowa and back again, we will stop along the way to visit other school districts.
